Turkish tea can be enjoyed as a mid-afternoon snack, a treat for guests, or a post- meal treat.Black tea leaves and a Turkish kettle are required.You can use one small and one large saucepans if you don’t own a Turkish kettle.You will be able to make and enjoy your Turkish tea in a few minutes.
Step 1: Purchase tea leaves that are black.
If you don’t have black tea on hand, you can go to a local grocery store, tea shop, or online supplier.Pick your favorite black tea as the base flavor because the strength of your tea depends on how much water you add at the end.There are three main strength classes for Turkish teas: strong dark teas known as koyu; medium deep brownish red teas called tavan Kan, which means rabbit’s blood; and weak light tea called ak.Try dark tea leaves for a strong base.If you prefer your tea with a stronger flavor, purchase herbal teas like mint, apple, rosehip, or lemon ginger.
Step 2: The water must be boiled in the bottom pot.
Remove the top pot from the bottom pot and fill the teapot with water if the two pots are attached.As you begin to boil the water, place the teapot back on top.If you have bottled water, use it for the best taste.If you’re going to use tap water, make sure it runs on cold for 10 seconds before you fill it.
Step 3: The tea leaves should be put in the top pot.
Carefully add the leaves into the empty pot after removing the lid from the upper teapot.Earl Gray or other black tea bases with flavors like orange, lemon, or grapefruit can be added to give them a nice aroma.Store your Turkish tea in a sealed package.It will not be affected by external odors and humidity.
Step 4: The water from the bottom pot should be put into the top pot.
Pour some of the boiling water into the upper teapot after removing the top pot from the bottom pot.The top pot should be placed on the heated element to replace the bottom pot if the water is more than 2 inches from the top.Pour the larger pot in a circular motion to ensure consistency.Double check that the water is boiling before pouring the tea leaves because black tea must be steeped in very hot water.
Step 5: The bottom pot should have 2 cups of water.
Add more water to the bottom pot while the top pot is heating up.Place the bottom pot on top of the element that is off and let it sit.You want the tea to be hot.It’s important to have enough water in the bottom pot to make sure you get the right amount of tea.
Step 6: When the tea starts to swell, place the top teapot on the bottom pot.
If you notice the tea swelling upward to the rim in the top teapot, lift it up and place it on the bottom teapot.The steam can escape if a small crack is left between the two pots.After placing the bottom pot underneath the top pot, cap it with a lid.
Step 7: Take it easy.
“Min” or “2” is the number on your stove ring.This will keep the tea below the boiling point.The tea is ready to be served once the leaves start to sink.If you don’t know if the tea is ready, remove the lid from the top pot and check the level of tea leaves.
Step 8: Black tea leaves can be purchased from tea stores, big-box stores or online suppliers.
The strength of Turkish tea is classified into three categories: strong and dark (koyu); medium deep brownish red (tavan kan); and weak and light (ak).The strength of them is determined by how much you drink, so choose your base flavor for the best results.If you prefer strong tea, try Assam, Darjeeling, and Nilgiri.If you like your tea with a stronger flavor, try herbal teas like apple, mint, rosehip, or lemon ginger.Try a few different kinds.
Step 9: The water should be boiled in a large saucepan.
Turkish tea kettles are double boilers, which can be made by stacking a small saucepan on top of a larger saucepan.The water in the bottom saucepan will give you the best taste.If you want, you can swap the smaller saucepan with the mixing bowl.If you use tap water, make sure it runs for 10 seconds before you fill your pan.The best material to use for a pan or bowl is copper, aluminum, and non-stainless steel.
Step 10: The tea leaves should be put in the smaller saucepan.
Scoop your tea into the saucepan by resting it on a flat surface.Add an additional amount of tea like lemon, orange, or grapefruit.Turkish tea should be kept in a sealed container to prevent it from being affected by humidity and odors.
Step 11: In the small saucepan, put 2 cups of boiling water over the leaves.
Place the small saucepan on the stove.Lift the large saucepan, tilt it to a 45 degree angle, and gently pour the boiling water around the top of the tea leaves in the small saucepan.Slowly move the large saucepan in a circular motion.When you run out of boiling water or the water is close to the top of the small saucepan, stop pouring.The water should be boiling before pouring onto the tea leaves.Black tea needs to be steeped in water that is at least 100 C for active substance development.The water will rise if you keep the saucepan on medium heat.The pan should be left without a lid.
Step 12: The large saucepan has 2 cups of water in it.
As you wait for the tea to boil, add more water to the large saucepan.Put the larger saucepan on the close-by element that is turned off and let it sit.When you serve your tea, make sure you have enough water in your saucepan.
Step 13: When the tea starts to swell, place the small saucepan on the large saucepan.
Lift the larger saucepan and place it underneath the smaller one if you notice tea starting to swell.Keep a small gap between the base of the smaller saucepan and the larger one so steam can escape.After placing the larger one underneath the small saucepan, place a lid on it.
Step 14: The tea should be boiled for between 10 and 15 minutes.
It’s best to turn the stove to low heat if you have a stove ring.You can set the temperature to 195 F.The tea is kept at a temperature just below the boiling point.The tea is ready to serve once the tea leaves sink to the bottom of the small saucepan.If you’re not sure if your tea is ready, remove the saucepan lid.It’s ready to drink if the tea leaves make their way to the bottom of the saucepan.
Step 15: Put tea and water in a Turkish tea glass.
Turkish tea is usually served with a small amount of water.Start by filling your Turkish tea glass with tea from the top pot.To fill the rest of the cup, use the water in the bottom teapot.It’s a good idea to pour it gently to avoid bubbles.If you prefer lighter ak tea, fill 1/3 of the glass with it, and the other 1/3 with a dark tea called koyu.Anything in the middle is called tavan.It’s a good idea to sprinkle a small amount of sugar in for taste.Within 30 minutes, drink the pot of tea.
Step 16: You can serve your Turkish tea with snacks.
You can add both baked pastries to your tea.Lemon bars, tea cakes, and hot cross buns are also available.If you’re drinking tea with a meal, try smoked salmon.
Step 17: It’s a good idea to drink your tea with sugar or lemon.
Add 1 to 2 sugar cubes if you don’t like black tea.Many people in Turkey place sugar cubes under their tongue to drink tea.Milk is not traditionally served with Turkish tea, but you can give it a try.
