Baby girls look even more adorable in crocheted dresses. If you are new to crocheting, you can make a simple, round-necked dress for a baby.It requires a couple of skeins of yarn, a crochet hook, and some basic crochet skills.A crocheted dress can be made for a baby as a gift or for your own baby.
Step 1: Attach your hook with a slipknot.
The crochet hook is US size H and the yarn is medium-weight.Wrap the yarn around your fingers. The first loop should be pulled over the second loop. The loop should be on the crochet hook.To tighten the loop, tug the tail of your yarn. It’s important that you can still slide the loop back and forth on your hook.It should be snug.
Step 2: You can make a chain of 50.
In front of the slip knot, loop your yarn over the hook.Pull the yarn through the slipknot to make your first chain stitch. This is repeated 49 times.
Step 3: The double crochet is done from the hook.
One time, loop the yarn over the end of the crochet hook.Attach the fourth chain from your hook and yarn to the hook.Pull this yarn through the chain, yarn over again, and pull the first 2 loops on the hook.Pull through 2 more times to complete the stitch. You will work all subsequent double crochet stitches in the same way, so make sure you are comfortable with this stitch before you continue.
Step 4: Continue to crochet until you reach the end of the chain.
Work 1 double crochet stitch into each chain until you get to the end. This will finish your dress’s foundation row. When you are done crocheting, don’t connect the ends of the row.
Step 5: You need Chain 3 to turn your work.
Pull the yarn through 1 to make the first chain, then repeat this 2 more times. If you are looking at the other side of your work, turn it.The chain of 3 is double crochet.
Step 6: The second crochet is from the hook.
The second stitch should be away from the one on the crochet hook. You should use a double crochet stitch.
Step 7: Work 2 double crochet stitches.
Find the third stitch from the crochet hook and double crochet 2 times into it.The total number of stitches in the row will be increased by working 2 stitches into 1 stitch.
Step 8: One time into the next 2 stitches.
You should work these 2 double crochet stitches.Don’t work more than one crochet double into each stitch.
Step 9: The sequence should be repeated at the end of the row.
Double crochet 2 times into the next stitch, then 1 time into each of the other 2 stitches, and so on.Continue alternating until you get to the end of the row.
Step 10: Continue with 1 extra double crochet per sequence.
The next row is very similar to the last one, but you will be working 3 double crochet stitches between each of the stitches where you work 2 into the same space. The sequence for the row will be as follows: Chain 3 and turn your work.1 time into each of the next 2 stitches.Work 2 double crochet stitches. Each of the next 3 stitches will be double crochet.Work 2 double crochet stitches. The last two in the sequence should be repeated at the end of the row.
Step 11: Attach the ends of the strip with slipstitch.
At the beginning of the round, you created a chain of 3 with your crochet hook.Pull through the stitch to connect the ends. There will be a V-shaped gap between the ends of the strip. When you are ready to finish the dress, you will sew a clasp onto the top part of the V.
Step 12: Turn your work around with Chain 3.
After you have connected the ends, chain 3 to start a new round, and then turn your work so that you can see the other side of it.
Step 13: Add 1 double crochet if you repeat the sequence from the previous row.
With 1 extra stitch per sequence, do exactly what you did in the last round. You can work 1 additional double crochet in between the stitches. For this round, you will double crochet 1 time into the next 4 stitches, then 2 times into 1 stitch. When you finish it, slipstitch the ends of the round.
Step 14: Chain 3, turn, and crochet double 1 time into the next 14 stitches.
As you have each of the previous ones, start the next round with a chain of 3.Then, crochet a double 1 time into the 14 stitches.Count until you get to the 14th stitch.Don’t go past this point!
Step 15: Double crochet a chain of 2 and skip the next 19 stitches.
After chain 2, skip the next 19 stitches in the round. To form the armhole, double crochet into the 20th stitch.Continue to double crochet into the next 27 stitches.
Step 16: Chain 2, skip 19, and double to the end of the round.
Skip over the next 19 stitches when you get to the 27th stitch. To form the second armhole, double crochet 1 time into the 20th stitch.Double crochet until you get to the end.
Step 17: Attach the ends with slipstitch.
Slipstitch the ends of the round when you get to the end.Attach the hook to the top of the chain of yarn and pull through the stitches to secure it.
Step 18: You can double crochet until you reach the first armhole.
Before moving on to the skirt, you need to create some space under the armholes.Start the round with a chain of 3, then double crochet into each stitch. The first armhole opening is where you made the chain of 2.
Step 19: Work 4 double crochet stitches.
Attach your hook to the chain 2 space and pull the yarn through it.Pull through 2 after yarn over again.Pull through again to complete the first stitch after 1 more time. This is done 3 more times in the chain 2 space.
Step 20: You can double crochet to the next armhole.
Work 1 double crochet stitch into each of the stitches in the round until you get to the next armhole.Just as you did for the last one, work 4 double crochet stitches into this armhole.
Step 21: To slipstitch, double crochet to the end of the round.
Double crocheting 1 time into each of the stitches in the round until you get to the end.Pull through 2 to slipstitch the ends.
Step 22: You can double crochet a chain of 3.
Pick up where you left off and make a chain of 3.Double crochet at the base of the chain. The chain of 3 is double crochet.
Step 23: Two crochets into the same stitch.
Double crochet into the same space as you did the last double crochet stitch, using a chain of 1 and 2 more times. The V-stitch will be created in the space. The skirt will flare out if many of these are worked in the round.
Step 24: The first sequence should be repeated in the next space.
2 double crochets, 1 chain, and 2 more. The same pattern is used to work a V-stitch.Work 2 double crochets, chain 1, and then 2 more in the same stitch. To connect the ends, repeat this sequence to the end of the round.
Step 25: Continue working in the same pattern.
Just as before, start with a chain of 3.Double crochet, chain 1, and double crochet 2 more into the same space.Work the V-stitches into the chain 1 spaces you formed in the last round. For the next rounds, do this.
Step 26: When your skirt is the right length, slipstitch the ends.
Slipstitch to connect the ends after you complete a round. If you don’t, you will end up with an open skirt.Continue working in the same pattern until your skirt is the right length for the baby. The skirt can be long or short.Work 5 rounds in the V stitch to make a short skirt. The V-stitch can be used to make a longer skirt for the baby dress.
Step 27: The hook and eye closure should be sewn onto the top corners of the dress.
The hook and eye closure should be on the inside of the dress near the top corner. The needle can be inserted through the yarn.Pull against the back of the yarn until the knot is up.Then, put the needle through the yarn again.Tie the thread in a knot when you repeat this 7 more times.Do the same thing for the other side of the hook and eye closure.
