Step 3: If you’re interested in law enforcement, get an air marshal service position.
The federal air marshals are hired by the TSA.As a marshal, you will enforce airport security rules and ensure the safety of airline passengers by dealing with hostile threats that come your way.
Step 4: There is a job opening on the USA Jobs website.
To find out if there are any job openings in your area, you need to visit the USA Jobs website.Put your city, state, country, or zip code in the location search box if you type “TSA” into the page’s key words box.If you want to browse any job listings, click the “Search” button.
Step 5: Pick a job and apply online.
When looking through the open positions, make sure to check the minimum requirements, official duties and responsibilities, travel requirements and pay scale.The button to apply is located at the top of the job page.You will need to create a USA Jobs account if you don’t already have one.Current federal employees, veterans, military spouses, and individuals with disabilities can only apply for some jobs.
Step 6: Attach a resume to your application.
Information relevant to the job you’re applying for should be included in your government resume.Your level of education, previous work or volunteer experience, and any prior training you received are included.Put the most relevant information at the top of your resume’s opening page to make sure it gets seen.When listing work experience, include the position title, start and end dates, hours worked each week, yearly salary, and any specific things you accomplished relevant to the job you’re applying for.
Step 7: Attach any additional forms.
Before you submit your application, you may need to fill out some additional paperwork.SF-50 is a notification of personnel action that all current and previous federal employees have to fill out.Your eligibility for federal contract work and government life insurance is determined by a Declaration for Federal Employment.Veteran applicants may need to provide a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty.An Application for 10-point Veterans’ Preference that former military members must submit to receive priority during the job selection process is called SF-15.
Step 8: If you want, attach a cover letter.
A good cover letter is what separates you from the rest of the pack.For government jobs, keep your cover letter around 3 paragraphs long and include the information from your resume most relevant to the position you’re applying for.To personalize your cover letter, include a sentence or two about why you want the position and what you can bring to the TSA.
Step 9: You can submit your application.
You have to double-check that you’ve provided everything requested by the USA Jobs official website before you submit your application.Within a few hours, you’ll get an e-mail notifying you that the TSA received your application.
Step 10: You can register for the candidate dashboard.
Keep an eye out for an e-mail from the TSA after you submit your application.Instructions on how to register for the online portal you’ll use to monitor your application status will be provided in this e-mail.
Step 11: If necessary, take a CBT.
To prove your overall competence, you may need to take a Computer Based Test.The exam takes about 2 12 hours to complete and consists of an English competency test and an image interpretation test.You need to schedule an appointment with an authorized testing center to take the exam.All transportation security officer applicants have to take the CBT.
Step 12: Any job-specific paperwork needs to be completed.
Depending on the position you applied for, the TSA may ask you to fill out additional paperwork.Typically, this includes the SF-86 Questionnaire for National Security Positions and any authorization forms necessary for the TSA to run a background check on you.
Step 13: Schedule a job interview or airport assessment.
Once the TSA approves your previous paperwork, they may contact you to request a standard job interview or an official airport assessment.Airport assessments usually include a job interview and a vision test.
Step 14: Pass a drug test, medical evaluation, and background check.
After the interview, you’ll get information on how to complete the mandatory government drug test and a medical evaluation.The background check is completed by the TSA on their own.The general evaluations are the final hurdle in your career with the TSA.
Step 15: Accept the offer.
The only thing left to do is wait for an official job offer.After you receive your employment clearance, this should arrive from the specific airport you applied to.If the airport doesn’t hire you, your approval will remain valid for a full year.
