Have you ever driven a go-kart?Imagine if you could make your own electric go-kart and send imaginary riders on a race.You can do that with a few simple parts, like a button battery, small motor, and toothbrush head.If you want to see how fast your racer can go, make a track out of popsicle sticks.
Step 1: The back of the brush head has tape on it.
The paper needs to be removed from one side of the tape.Place it on the back of the toothbrush head.Behind the tape is where the narrow cut-off stem of the toothbrush starts.This space is needed for the spinner on your motor.
Step 2: Attach the motor to the double-sided tape.
The double-sided tape has backing on it.Push your motor onto it so that the spinner faces the back of the brush and the wires face the front.Turn the spinner on the back of the motor with your finger.Since it will need to spin for your car to work, make sure it can move freely.
Step 3: Put the red wire on the tape.
Take the red wire and bend it into a circle.Push the metal tip of the wire onto the tape.If you push the wire hard, it will stick in the tape.It might not be able to make contact with the battery.
Step 4: The battery should be put on the tape on top of the red wire.
Attach the button battery to the piece of tape so that it faces up.The metal end of the wire should be under the battery.There is a gap between the battery and the motor.
Step 5: You can test the motor by touching the blue wire.
Touch the metal end of the blue wire to the battery.The toothbrush should start to vibrate when the spinner on the motor starts to spin.Make sure the red wire is in contact with the underside of the battery if the motor doesn’t start spinning.You can double check to make sure the spinner isn’t sticking to the tape.
Step 6: Place the car on a flat surface.
It is time to see how your car runs.Put it on a smooth surface like a table.The bristles on the toothbrush should be facing down.It’s possible that your car won’t move very well on a soft or bumpy surface.
Step 7: The blue wire should be pushed against the battery.
You can see what happens if you touch the wire.When you let your car go, does the wire stay in place?Does your car move?Is it still upright?
Step 8: Adding pipe cleaners will make your car work better.
Think about how you can improve the performance of your car.Take the pipe cleaners with you.It is possible to fit them into the space between the motor and the battery.Is it possible to use them to help your car balance better?How?Can they hold the blue wire?Don’t stop testing the car until you’re happy with it.
Step 9: Popsicle sticks and clay are used to make guardrails.
2 small balls of clay can be made with a popsicle stick.Put a piece of clay on the edge of the popsicle stick.Put it down so that it can stand on its side like a railing or fence, with the clay balls supporting it.If you want to do the same thing, get another popsicle stick.You can create a flat base by squeezing the bottoms of the clay balls.
Step 10: To create a path for your car, set the rails side by side.
The 2 guardrails should be next to each other.Make sure you have enough room in between them for your mini racecar.
Step 11: You should release your car at the entrance of the path.
Put your racecar at the start of the path you made with the popsicle stick guardrails.What does the car do?Does it follow the path?Does your car travel differently if you let it run loose?
Step 12: You can make a longer track by adding more popsicle sticks.
Make a nice, long track for your race car by building more guardrails.You can make the track any shape you want.Add some turns to your track.When your car comes to a turn, what happens?If you want to know how long it takes your car to complete the track, use a stopwatch or watch.
Step 13: The project is finished!
