How To Add a Liner to Knitted or Crocheted Bags

The contents of your bag can fall out if the holes in between the stitches are not fixed.Placing items in a crocheted or knitted bag with no liner can stretch out the stitches and make the bag lose its shape.Adding a fabric liner to your bag will make it last longer. It is easy to do and will make your bag more durable.

Step 1: Take your materials.

You will need some special materials before you start Lining a crocheted or knitted purse. You will need a knitted or crocheted bag.You need enough fabric to line your bag. There is a ruler or measuring tape.A piece of chalk. There are pins.A sewing machine with some thread and a needle. There is a clasp for your bag.

Step 2: Attach the outline of your purse to your fabric.

To make sure your liner is the same size as your bag, lay out your fabric and double it.Put your purse over the fabric and use chalk to outline it.Measure the length and width of your purse and then measure your fabric. You can use chalk to mark where you need to cut the fabric.

Step 3: Pull out your fabric.

Cut around the edges of the chalk lines. If you cut through both layers of the fabric, you will have two pieces that are the same size.If you want to make sure the fabric doesn’t slide around, you can pin the edges. This may be needed for a slippery fabric.

Step 4: To make a seam, fold over the top edge.

The top edge of each piece should be folded over after you have cut out your two pieces.Take 12” to 1” of fabric and fold it over.If the fabric has a print, fold it over to show it on both sides.Pin the edges of the fabric to secure it.To create the top seam of your purse, sew along the edges of the fabric pieces. You can sew from the edge of the fabric.

Step 5: You should sew along the outer edges of the fabric.

Place your fabric pieces together so that the edges of your seam are facing out.The print should be facing itself if it has a fabric on it.Attach the two pieces by sewing along the outer edges of the sides and bottom of your fabric pieces. From the edges of the fabric, sew about 12” to 1”The edges can be sewed with a sewing machine or hand.A strong seam can be created using a straight stitch. It’s important to leave the top part of your fabric open. This will be the opening of your purse.

Step 6: If you want to close the purse, you can use a snap or a zip up.

Before you sew the liner in place, make sure you add something to the purse.Make sure that the snaps are centered on the inside of the liner. Before securing the pieces in place, check to see if the closure will fit together.

Step 7: Put the liner in your purse.

You can put the liner inside of your bag after you’ve made it for your purse.Make sure the edges of the seam are facing into the bag.You should be able to fit the liner inside of your bag.If it’s too large, you can sew a new seam from the original one.The liner will be smaller.

Step 8: You can pin along the edges.

Pin it into place to secure the liner in place while you sew it to the bag.Attach the liner to the purse with pins along the top edge.If you prefer, you can pin the liner to the purse’s edges. The seams need to be lined up.Make sure that this is lined up as well if you added a means of closing the purse.

Step 9: The top edge of your purse has a Stitch on it.

You can begin stitching after securing your liner.Attaching your liner to the purse can be done by hand. The sewing machine can catch on the loops of your purse. If you want to sew along the edge of the liner, you need to thread a needle with the color thread of your choice. After your first pass through the fabric pieces, tie a knot at the end of your piece of thread to hold it in place.Tie off the thread by sewing all the way around the liner edge. After sewing the liner in, your purse is ready to use.If you want to give it as a gift, fill it with your normal purse contents.
