How To Access Gmail on Desktop Email Software

Many users may be interested in integrating Gmail with a desktop email client, as it has quickly become a dominant web-based email solution.Whether motivated by the ability to perform email-related tasks offline or a simple preference for the desktop program’s feel and aesthetic, users have any number of rationales for setting Gmail up in an email client.There are a number of lesser-known applications that can offer such an experience.Three of the most common clients are Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail and Mozilla Thunderbird.It’s fairly easy to set them up to access Gmail accounts.

Step 1: To use IMAP, you have to set up Gmail.

Then check the box that says “My outgoing server requires verification.”The first bulleted option is “Use same settings as my incoming mail server.”

Step 11: Under Internet E-mail settings, select the Advanced tab.

The dialogue box was used for the previous step.You’ll need to provide more information.There is a text box for Incoming server.There is a menu for Incoming server connection.From the menu, select the Outgoing server connection.You can type 587 in the text box.Even though the text box for Outgoing server (SMTP) is listed before the outgoing server connection is ciphered on screen, you should type in 587 if you want to send a message.If you select TLS after that, the port number will return to 25.Click OK and close the internet e-mail settings.

Step 12: On the Add Account screen, click Next.

Outlook will show you a “Congratulations!” if it tests the account setting you’ve entered.The process has been completed.You can click Close when you see that message.

Step 13: After arriving at the screen, click on Finish.

Outlook will send a test message to confirm that account’s addition was successful.This should be the end of the process.

Step 14: Go back to Outlook’s Home tab.

If the process was successful, you should see your Gmail account listed in the lefthand column.

To get to the appropriate fields, you’ll need to type in your Full Name, Address, Email and Password.For the requested email and password, use your Gmail information.If you’re using [email protected] account, this will give you all the information you need.When you click Continue, you’ll be prompted for more information.On the next screen, users must enter additional information.You can enter a brief description of the account by selecting IMAP as your account type.You can type imap.gmail.com into the text box.Click Continue.Go to the next screen and type smtp.gmail.com into the field for Outgoing Mail server and click Continue.Proceed to the next step if you click Continue on the screen before.

Step 23: The Account Summary screen has a screen where you can create an account.

Once Apple Mail has verified your account information, this screen will appear.Next to Account type is what it should say.You can check the boxes for setting up Notes, Calendars, Reminders and Messages.Depending on the extent to which you want to integrate your Gmail functions with Mail, this is your call.You’ll be taken back to the preferences screen once you press create.

Step 24: From the preferences screen, choose Mailbox Behaviors.

The box should be checked to make sure it doesn’t contain drafts, sent and trash mail.This will make your server less cluttered.

Step 25: The preferences screen should be closed.

You will be asked if you want to save your changes.

Step 26: The process should be verified that it worked.

Check for welcome email from Gmail to make sure it’s linked to your Apple Mail client.
